About Ms. Ward

I was born and raised in North Carolina, and though I love my home, I always felt the need to explore the world further. Perhaps this is what sparked an early childhood interest in history - one which never quite died down. Through history, I was able to travel across the globe and through time, making better sense of my world, who I was, and what kind of future I want to create. It is this magic of history that I want to impart on my students.

Regarding my hobbies, it'd be easier to tell you what I'm not interested in. My aim in life is to know and do everything.
You'll find me most at home in a library, in an antique shop, on an airplane, and anywhere that plays good music I can dance to.

I've recently become fascinated with fiber arts like embroidery, sewing, and quilting - especially because practicing these skills makes me feel connected to women of the past, including my own ancestors. Speaking of ancestors, I am a genealogist in my spare time! I enjoy discovering my family's history, sharing it with my relatives, and preserving it for future generations. It is an honor to be my family's archivist of photos, artifacts, and traditions, and it captures what intrigues me the most about history - the experiences and stories of "average" people. This is a perspective I'd like to bring into the history classroom.

In 2021, I had my first teaching experience when I traveled to a small town in Puebla, Mexico to intern at a local English school. I assisted teachers in classroom instruction for students of all ages, led class sessions of my own, and participated in cultural exchange with students and the community.

In Summer 2024 I will attend a faculty-led study abroad trip through my university to Germany, France, and Belgium. My peers, professors, and I will study the "causes & consequences of war, genocide, & peace" through World War I, World War II, and even some Medieval history.

I look forward to student teaching in North Carolina and abroad in Fall 2025!
