These three lesson plan samples correspond with a Roaring Twenties and Great Depression unit. Adhering to NCDPI Content and Inquiry Standards, each lesson uses multimedia resources, both digital and hands-on learning exercises, and a mix of teacher-led and student-centered activities to facilitate learning. Accessibility is important, and attention is given to reach a variety of learning styles. In these lesson plans, multilingual learners (ELLs) and struggling readers are specifically considered.
Lesson Plan 1: A Return to Normalcy?
Lesson Essential Question: What visions of prosperity did Americans have for the 1920s?
This lesson begins the unit and primarily serves to introduce students to a comprehensive overview of the 1920s. Students will learn about the varied worldviews held by Americans in the 1920s and how differing visions of prosperity and freedom shaped the decade economically, politically, and socially.

Lesson Essential Question: How were everyday Americans affected by the Depression?
This third sample actually represents the fifth lesson in the unit. Using music and primary source analysis, it serves to introduce students to the experiences of everyday Americans during the Great Depression with an emphasis on the Dust Bowl.
